From a restricted nation in South Asia, a Sunday school teacher shared,
The Prayer Covenant in South Asia
I have been teaching children in Sunday school for last 4 years. I have found a huge change in kids while teaching The Prayer covenant lessons. Kids who never prayed in class have started praying which was so important to me. I am very thankful to God. Through TPC syllabus 90% of my class have committed to help others, obey their elders & and will read Bible & pray regularly.
Building Bedrock Faith in Children
Why is this important? As I often share, research has shown that children that remain faithful to Jesus throughout their lifetime did three things: prayed regularly, read their Bibles regularly and regularly served within the church. It is why it is a non-negotiable for parents. We must actively disciple our children starting when they are very young. Research shows 70% of churched kids will leave the faith but as many point out, it’s because we lost them when they were in elementary and middle school.
Nurturing a child’s relationship with Jesus through prayer get children on the prayer journey and helps them grow into a lifestyle of prayer. Teaching them how to hide God’s word in their heart, helps them fall in love with the Bible and inviting them to minister to others in small ways, whether they’re helping prepare a deliver a meal to someone, visiting those in nursing homes and praying for them, or sharing the love of Jesus with someone, these are ways children begin to experience the power of the Holy Spirit working in them and through them, thereby producing sticky faith.
The Word of James
James wrote there is no greater joy than to see our children walking in truth. Sunday school is important and good, but it doesn’t replace the spiritual nurturing that must take place in the home throughout the week.
From a restricted nation, a child shared this testimony. “I am very talkative but when someone from my family or anyone asked me to pray I always found it very difficult to pray in front of them and never found proper words to say in prayer. I came to know from my teacher in my Bible class from “the Prayer Covenant” lessons that Prayer is simply talking with God. It gave me courage that I too could pray. I started praying with my family in my home. I kept praying with my family and siblings and now I can pray in big gathering anywhere.
This is what it’s all about friends. Helping children grow in the grace and knowledge of who Jesus is by growing in prayer.
